This is a wonderful exhibition which is held annually at the Gosford Regional Gallery, allowing carers, workers in the field of mental health and users of the service to express their ideas, through written statements and art work. This brings mental health into the public arena through art and creates a much better understanding of mental health issues. This exhibition has been going now for seventeen years and has grown over that time. Having had the opportunity to work in the field and also having done voluntary work as a child over a number of years at North Ryde Psychiatric Centre with my parents gave me an appreciation first hand of the issues that those with mental health issues face and the fear that people have of the unknown. By making the general public aware also decreases the fear that people may have of those with a mental health problems. There were many prizes received on the day in a lot of different categories and it was a joy to see the recipients beaming as they accepted their awards.
