lTo those unfamiliar with the Catholic Rosary, it is an instrument of prayer and mediation. As a child I grew up surrounded by an Irish grandmother and my mother Mary Therese. Whenever there was a problem the family would be gathered to say the rosary. In memory of my nan and mother Mary and the links and connections to my Irish ancestry Ave Maria came to mind. My grandmother and mothers holy pictures have been used as they capture the essence of these two women and their faith in Mary. The stamps are Australian Christmas stamps saved over the years and appropriate as they are in themselves symbolic of the mother and child but also messages. Ave Maria is an indoor sculpture and as you can see can be viewed in the round. It has been a journey in itself having started this last year which was my grandmothers 40th anniversary since her death and this year is five years since mum passed. It will soon be on show indoors at Kooindah Waters Sculpture on the Greens for all to view. It is exciting when a plan comes together and something which was just a sketch in the notebook becomes a reality.
